Basic Package of Health Services, BPHS
In March 2002, the Ministry of Public Health started to identify its priority to health problems in the country. After one year of discussions and meetings with health professionals and stakeholders, the Basic Packages of Health Services (BPHS) was endorsed. The purpose of BPHS was to:
* provide a standardised package of health services which forms the core of services delivery in all primary health care facilities
* promote a re-distribution of health services by providing equitable access based on the population density in relation to population density in underserved areas.
The services are to provide at four levels of health care delivery; Health Posts, Basic Health Centres, Comprehensive Health Centres and District Hospitals. BPHS remains the core strategy of the National Health Policy and through cooperation of MoPH, donors and implementing NGO´s, BPHS expanded to reach 77 % of the afghan population.
