Teacher training programme

During the 20 years, before 2002, hardly anyone has graduated from teacher training institutions in Afghanistan. In remote areas of Afghanistan, many teachers do not have the basic qualifications and may not themselves had the possibilities to finish secondary school. SCA is providing competence development as subject knowledge and pedagogic skills to improve under-educated teachers´ competence and knowledge. SCA´s prime candidates for receiving the teacher training are females to work as girl schoolteachers in underserved rural areas of the country.

SCA has more than twenty years of experience in teacher training and has produced a model in in-service teacher training as well as developed teaching materials and manuals in Dari and Pashto. These teaching manuals have also been utilised and implemented by many other education actors in the country. SCA is also working in close cooperation with the Minister of Educations Teacher Education Programme (TEP), a nation wide programme with the aim to unify the teacher training programmes among all education actors in the country.

Teacher Training Centres (TTC) - The main objective of supporting these centres is to conduct teacher training courses in prominent teaching/learning environment by providing facilities such as comfortable accommodation, adequate teaching equipment and materials including, equipped libraries, laboratories etc. for teachers from remote areas. SCA took the lead in establishing equipped teacher training centres for women in Ghazni, Jalalabad and Taloqan. These resource centres have all facilities for them and their escorts. Each teacher training centre has the capacity to accommodate 30 trainees at the same time. SCA is also working with mobile training teams for reaching the teachers in their home base, instead of them coming to the teacher training centres.
