At an SPF training in Parwan in 2009 local NGOs received training in
proposal writing and budget planning.
Civil Society (CS) is commonly known as the arena in between families, private companies, government, institutions and typically consist of a group of people that come together in order to achieve their common goals and visions for the goods of a bigger group.
SCA’s Small Project Fund (SPF) aims to strengthen local capacity and to respond to initiatives from civil society organisations, increase its interaction with civil society and try out new partnership activities with civil society organisations.
The project is funded through Swedish Forum Syd.
Deadline for applications is January 24, 2010.

and Saripul.
As of October 1 the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan SCA) will manage Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) projects in Samangan and Saripul provinces in Northern Afghanistan.

Reducing mother and child mortality

In recent years the number of pregnant women in rural areas of Afghanistan who received assistance from a doctor, nurse or midwife for safe delivery increased from 6% to 18.9%. In this issue of the SCA Newsletter we visit the SCA midwifery training in Wardak.

Afghans conquer highest mountain peak

For the first time ever two Afghan climbers have reached the summit of Afghanistan’s highest mountain.
The two climbers, Amruddin and Malang, reached the 7,492 metres summit of Noshaq in the Hindu Kush in the Wakhan, Badakhshan province on Sunday, 19 July 2009 and unfurled the Afghan flag.
As the world’s 52nd highest peak, Noshaq is the second highest independent peak of the Hindu Kush after Tirich Mir in Pakistan at 7,690 metres above sea level.

SCA received a reward from Governor Atta Mohammad Noor for outstanding performances in Balkh province. The SCA Mazar Project Office were selected together with three other NGOs in competition with 37 NGOs who are active in the Balkh province.

Cricket Training Camp with national heroes

Today Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) together with the charity organization Afghan Connection launched a three day cricket training camp supported by our Afghan heroes; the Afghan National Cricket Team.
The training camp is taking place at Nangarhar's University in eastern Afghanistan were the Afghan National Cricket Team will coach and support 75 students from SCAs Model Schools, 75 students from governmental schools and five disabled from the SCAs Rehabilitation of Afghans with Disabilities centers.

Afghan National Cricket Team opens the first Cricket Pitch out of ten

Mr. Raees Ahmadzai from Afghan National Cricket Team inaugurates the first pitch ever constructed in the remote district Rodat, in the eastern province Nangarhar, at one of SCAs model schools in Roghano.
This is one of ten pitches that will be built at SCA Model schools throughout Afghanistan in 2009 together with the British charity organization Afghan Connection.

Report: Fight poverty to end insecurity

Poverty and unemployment have been identified by Afghans as the most significant underlying cause of insecurity in Afghanistan. In its latest report Human Rights Research and Advocacy Consortium (HRRAC) calls for an increased donor focus on poverty reduction and creation of income opportunities.
HRRAC recommends donors to substantially strengthen measures to lessen poverty, to promote civilian rather than military efforts to achieve this, and to ensure that this is widely communicated both within Afghanistan and in donor countries.

HRRAC is a group of fourteen organizations committed to promoting peace and human rights in Afghanistan.
HRRAC aim is to influence policy changes that will promote human rights and peace in Afghanistan through ongoing research and advocacy.

SCA wishes a Happy New Year

The world lives on hope, and this spring when the red tulip blossom, the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan wishes all proud Afghans a happy new year.
For 26 year, during hardship and happiness, the Swedish Committee has been providing health services, education, rehabilitation to Afghans with disabilities and perhaps the most essential of all – clean water.
We are devoted to continue doing that.
