HIV/Aids training to Oxfam employees

Kabul, February 14, 2009

Upon request from the British NGO Oxfam, the Health technical unit of SCA held a four days workshop for the Oxfam employees.
Oxfam is a NGO implementing National Solidarity Programme (NSP) in two provinces in Afghanistan. The workshop was provided in two rounds for about 40 employees.

“The training improved our employee’s knowledge in preventing the spread of HIV, and how to protect themselves against this deadly disease. More important is they share their knowledge with their family members and friends on how a person can be infected by the virus, and what is the best way to protect your self from HIV” said Mohammad Mirza, Oxfam HR coordinator.

The training was facilitated by two trainers of the HTU/SCA. It was free of cost and conducted in spirit of coordination and collaboration between NGOs. After the training each employee received a certificate.

SCA started its HIV public awareness programme in 2006 and provides HIV/Aids training to different categories of people in Kabul, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Wardak, Paktika, Kunduz and Ghazni provinces. There are 504 proved positive cases in Afghanistan. Approximately 2000-2500 persons are suspected to be carrying the virus.
