SCA celebrates International Women’s Day

SCA celebrated the International Women’s Day
(March 8) with ceremonies in its Kabul Management Office (KMO) and all its project offices in Ghazni, Jalalabad, Kunduz, Mazar-e-Sharif, Taloqan and Wardak.
This years main ceremony was held at KMO in Kabul were a large number of SCA staff from KMO and Wardak Project Office (WPO) participated in the ceremony.
The ceremony started with reciting verses from the Holy Quran. The opening speech was delivered by SCA’s Secretary General, Mr. Torbjorn Pettersson, currently visiting from Sweden.
Competitions between the participants and poems were presented, such as “A mother’s love” (about a mother’s dedication, and the happy and difficult moments for her children).
The ceremony ended with distribution of flowers and gifts to the female participants.
SCA focus on females
- In the areas where there is no school supported by the government or other NGOs SCA supports more than 80 Girls Annexes (more than 13.000 students).
- In SCA supported schools 48 % of the total students are girls and 26 % of the total teachers are female.
- When SCA are establishing Community Based Schools (CBS) girls CBS are prioritized.
- Recruitment of female teachers, establishing of female teacher training centers (FTTC) are also given a certain priority.
