SCA hosts Afghanistans
second CBR conference

Kabul, November 3, 2008

Today the second National Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) conference opened in Swedish Committees Kabul Management Office (KMO). It is the second National CBR conference organized in Afghanistan, coordinated by Public Health and Labour, Social Affair, Martyr and Disable’s Ministries (MoPH, MoLSAMD). About 200 visitors from Governmental and non Governmental organisations and other interested people were invited and joined the conference.

The two day conference is reviewing the impact of CBR programmes in Afghanistan. Government officials, disabled people’s representatives, NGOs, donors, and other stakeholders will discuss and plan how to promote the rights of people with disabilities to full access to community development and services, in which SCA values such as equality, human rights and democracy are included.

The objectives for the conference are not only to promote the CBR in Afghanistan, but also to assess trends of development and implantation of CBR programmes in the country which have been implemented since 2006.
Another objective is to identify challenges and constraints of the issue in the Afghan context, and to strengthen coordination and networking between disability stakeholders and to identify the required changes of goals of CBR in Afghanistan.
The event is funded by the European Commission (EC) as part of its social protection programme. /MA
