Commissioner Ferrero-Waldner wanted to Afghanistan so she could see for herself the impact of Commission’s assistance on the lives of the Afghan people. She therefore wanted to visit Commission supported projects and among them one of it was the SCA’s Training Centre for Midwives in Kunduz.

Swedish Committee for Afghanistan is implementing Bacis Package of Health Services (BPHS) in Kunduz Province since October 2003. The Community Midwife Education is an integrated part of that packages and the first batch of midwife students started their training in April 2004. The midwife students are now in Phase II of the program and they will graduate in October 2005.
The second intake of midwife students were performed in August 2005 and the students have been selected for next course.
