Pictures from the Election day

Afghan men gathering at a Polling Station in Saidabad Highschool, Wardak Province East of Kabul. The Polling Stations opened at 6 am and closed at 4 pm. At each Polling Station a team of 5 officials conducted polling activities: a Chairperson, a Queue Controller, an Identification and Inking Officer, a Ballot Issuer and a Ballot Box Controller.

All voters had to present at valid Voter Registration Card issued in Afghanistan and vote in the same province listed on the Voter Card.

The Identification and Inking Officer cleans and inks the voter’s right index finger. First he or she must make sure that the finger is wiped off in order for the ink to stick to the voters finger.

The Identification and Inking Officer also checks the voter’s fingers for ink and informs the Chairperson if the person is already inked. The ink prevents voters to vote mutiple times.

After receiving the Ballots from the Ballot Issuer the voter goes behind a screen before handing in his/her vote to the Ballot Box Controller.
