Project in Wardak rewarded by the World Bank

Malin Lager, October 17, 2005

Due to the hard work and dedication from the staff working in Wardak office with implementing Basic Packages of Health Services the World Bank has rewarded them for the highest score after an evaluation by Johns Hopkins University. The project performed the highest absolute and relative score increase and as a result, the project was entitled to receive a bonus at $ 43 000.

Project leader Dr Philippe Bonhour, “I am very happy and proud of all my staff for their dedication in this project, without them this would not been possible. I also want to thank the involvement of the local representatives of the Ministry of Health in Wardak. I look bright on the future and I hope that me and my staff will have the possibility to stay on this high level of performance".

A fair amount of the bonus will be spent on construction and purchase of long life assets like generators, heavy hospital equipment, office equipment and solar refrigerators for clinics and vaccine storage facilities. For the future Dr Philippe Bonhour says that this outstanding performance can be further improved if the project finds a way to fill the vacancies for female staff in the remotest clinics and if we improve the referral system.
