Swedish Ambassador visited the Community Midwife Training Centre in Kunduz

The Ambassador was shown around the hospital and briefed about the Community Midwife Training Centre by Kerstin Björk that works as a Mother and Child Health Trainer in Kunduz. The Ambassador Ann Wilkens stated during her visit that it is interesting and important for her as an ambassador to be engaged in field work and visit ongoing activities around Afghanistan.

Midwife Kerstin Björk has been involved in this project from the start up and has been responsible for the training of around twenty midwife students. Kerstin brief the ambassador about the curriculum for the midwife students and about their main responsibilities after they finish the training. The responsibilities for the community midwifes after they graduate will be focused on the provincial and district health centres and to provide with necessary supervision, care and advise to women during pregnancy, labour and postpartum period.


Midwife trainer Kerstin Björk is showing the ambassador the "skill lab" where the midwife students can practice deliveries on dolls. The first batch of midwife students will graduate in the end of October 2005 after a 18 months long training.
